Artist Statement
A former gypsy (having lived in Seattle,Dallas, New Orleans, Dayton, OH,
Beauty
and Princeton, WV in since 2000) I’ve finally found a home in Albuquerque. Most of my work chronicles my ongoing love affair with New Mexico.
My work is eclectic – but is a true reflection of my many experiences and interests. My artistic journey began back in 2000 with a gift of Photoshop and has grown exponentially since moving to New Mexico in 2004. I have experimented with a variety of mediums the last few years – moving from collage to assemblage to acrylics. Since 2007 I have focused on photography and encaustic painting. Now I can’t imagine life without my camera – it’s my third eye – my true artistic eye – and it rarely misses a thing.
My photography is not about capturing a moment – it is about capturing emotions and creating visual allegories. I believe that’s why I’m drawn to photo collage as it allows me to assemble and edit images to create a story. I love sitting at my computer and layering disparate images on top of each other – until something leaps out of the screen at me – and I recognize the story these images are trying to tell me.
