Richard Rieckenberg is a photographer, story teller, traveler, philanthropist and a humanist with a humorous bend. A former tennis pro, Cold War submarine officer, Persian Gulf War veteran, school teacher and business executive, Rieckenberg was the manager of a utility company supplying electrical power and heating to a major national laboratory when he was abruptly fired after disclosing unsafe working conditions. That incident became a catharsis that eventually led to a renewed commitment to his passions of photography and philanthropy. Rieckenberg is currently a Mass Care Administrator for the American Red Cross, leading on-scene efforts to provide shelter, food and supplies to victims of large-scale national disasters. When not engaged in disaster relief, Rieckenberg assists small businesses in improving their profitability and continues his pursuit for the perfect photograph. His photographic work can be seen at The Wooden Cow Gallery and Art Space.

Recently, Rieckenberg made a trip to meet with several tribes in northern Tanzania and to help support the newly-formed charitable organization, TEATEM, headquartered in Moshi, Tanzania. His talks of his experience and the images that he photographs are filled with joy, sorrow, dignity and poignancy. Please join us as Rieckenberg shares his memories, photographs, and the artwork of Tanzania. The experience will make you think and perhaps change, in some small, positive measure, the way you view the world.
