NOLA on my Mind: Images of New Orleans by Richard Rieckenberg

Opening Reception – April 2

Show Runs –  March 31 – April 30

“Nawlins” is a gumbo of wealth and decay, Southern charm and Southern sin, staid and riotous, sophisticated and lunatic; Blues, Jazz, Cajun, and Creole all mixed together in equal measures and the result is somehow delicious! Maria and I have been to Nawlins several times over the years. We have seen her on her knees (but not defeated) after Katrina when the street mimes and musicians outnumbered the tourists in the Quarter. We have watched her pull back from that precipice and regain the vinegar and spice of earlier times, smaller but even more feisty.

The photographs presented are from two trips. One taken in the spring of 2006 when the wounds from Katrina were still sharp and fresh. The second in 2009 when the vibrance, swirl and excitement in the Quarter had returned in full measure. I hope you enjoy these images.
